Progressive Prototyping
In the Develop phase of co-design, teams often move from rough ideas to more refined and testable designs through a progressive process of sketching, wireframing, and prototyping. These methods share the same purpose: to visualise and communicate design concepts, but differ in their level of fidelity.
Application Example
-
Sketching helps quickly explore and communicate early ideas through simple hand-drawn concepts. (Giroux et al., 2019)
-
Wireframing adds structure by showing the layout and hierarchy of elements without visual styling. (Hartzler et al., 2023)
-
Prototyping creates more realistic, often interactive representations that can be tested with users.
Using these methods in sequence allows teams to gradually build clarity, gather feedback, and reduce design risks before committing to full development. (Ghorayeb et al., 2023; March et al., 2018)
